Guest facility didn't meet Matt approval

MATT Ford believes “there is no way a guest facility should have been granted to Belle Vue” to cover for Jason Crump’s absence against Pirates, saying the controversial decision “was beyond me.”

But British Speedway Promoters’ Association’s Chris Van Straaten has defended its management committee’s decision, claiming it was made “for the good of the sport.”

Speaking before Aces’ shock 46-44 triumph at Poole on Thurs-day when former Poole rider Davey Watt guested for Crump, Pirates chief Ford said: “Ask the management committee why Belle Vue have a guest because they’re the ones who made this ridiculous decision.

“This fixture has been in place since the first week of August, but Aces only signed Jason two or three weeks ago.

“Even Jason’s contract said he didn’t have to do any Thursday fixtures ahead of Grand Prix weekends.

“While we have every sympathy with Jason, there’s no way a facility should be given when a club has sign-ed a rider knowing he’ll be unavailable for a meeting.

“Hans Andersen is riding for us against Belle Vue and flies to Zagreb on Friday, arriving at 11.25am only 30 miles from the Krsko track where he needs to sign on for GP practice between 1.30pm and 2pm – ample time to arrive.

“How on earth, when one rider is fulfilling the fixture, can a facility be given to someone who is in the same meeting, but not here?

“The management committee were made aware of this last week when it was stated Hans was going to be at Poole and still be at GP practice. So quite how the five management committee members have come to this decision is beyond me, and questions have to be asked why they’re affecting my business.”

Van Straaten, management committee vice-chairman, said: “The decision to allow Belle Vue a guest was made because of a combination of things.”

They included Poole’s change of race night, taken to avoid clashing with England’s World Cup qualifier against Croatia on terrestrial TV, and Crump’s wish to avoid the risk of arriving in Slovenia too late for GP practice. It was also because Belle Vue literally couldn’t replace Crump with a better guest rider “because he’s currently the best in the world so I don’t think they would gain an advantage.”

Van Straaten added: “Poole put a letter of objection in on Tuesday when it was discussed by full management committee, and decided a facility to replace Jason would stand.

“I understand Poole feel hard done by but sometimes you have to look at the whole picture for the good of the sport.”

Whoops another fine methinks for Fraud.

Real shame his memory lets him down though as he cannot seem to recall that Poole have benefitted at least twice this year from MC decisions

1. They should never have got R/R for the injured Jason Doyle at the start of the season as he hadnt ridden a match for them - Contrary to Rule 18.1.4.2

2. Steve Boxall's GSA was assessed back down to 3.00 so he could join them at no 7 - How convenient, especially seeing as he averaged 3.45 for Belle Vue from 6 matches at the start of the year.

The Sky Sports Elite League play-offs have been confirmed after league winners Swindon chose their opponents.

The top-four in the league qualify for the league, and the top-side get to choose either the third or fourth place side to ride against over two-legs in the semi-finals.

As such Swindon have opted to take on third placed Coventry Bees in their semi-final.

That means Wolverhampton will race off against Lakeside Hammers for a place in the grand final.

The first legs will take place on Monday September 21, with the second legs coming seven days later.

The top two teams, Swindon and Wolves, also benefit from having a points advantage.

At the end of their two-legged tie Swindon will get eight points added to their total - whilst Wolves will get four.

The Grand Final will be over two legs on October 5 and 12.

What a joke

The ref has brain problems.

Lindgreen got out of control and the swindon boys were out in front yet the stupid lala still doesn't exclude him.

What a joke

i just want to see the true winner and i feel swindon have been conned.

Well don't to wolves and i hope they do well with Freddie lindgreen on a 10.50 average.

The BSPA need to sort out the rules

Swindon won the league and pretty easily.

But since sky want viewers they choose to have the league decided by 2 games

Yet nothing will beat the panthers win in 06.

Good luck to Swindon next season.

BSPA also need to sort out the rule for premier league riders as the league has been decided because of this.

Holder for Poole
Woffinden for Wolves
Darcy Ward for Peterborough ;D
